Stephen, who lives in Belle Harbor and beginning the eleventh grade at St. Edmund Prepatory High School, leads a fully active life, despite enduring months of chemo and radiation therapy. Part of a long lineage of Mets fans beginning with his grandfather, Arty Masiello, 89, Stephen’s dream is to someday play second base for the Mets. He also loves to golf and play ball on the beach with his friends. Stephen and his family expect him to make a full recovery. This is the fourth consecutive year that GHI President and CEO Frank Branchini have relinquished the honor of throwing the first pitch in order to grant this dream-come-true to a deserving child. “Stephen DiMola has a completely positive attitude, despite having lived with a serious medical condition,” said Branchini. “He is a credit to his family and an inspiration to everyone.” “We’ve always been very open about Stephen’s Hodgkins,” said his mother Pam. “There’s no reason why it should hold him back, and it never has.” August 30, when Stephen throws the first pitch, happens to be the day before his 16th birthday. “This is a very special present,” he said. “I can’t wait to take the mound.” Pam, husband Vito and children James, 19, Jonathan, 15, and Jeanette, 12, will be among the family and friends cheering Stephen when he throws his pitch.
