for larger version       Far Rock Man Pleads Guilty In Slaying A Far Rockaway man pleaded guilty Monday to murdering his ex-girlfriend’s new lover inside the woman’s Long Island City apartment, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown. Sean Harris, 37, of 54-30 Beach Channel Drive admitted in court that on October 25, 2003 he went to his ex’s apartment, located at 12-15 36 Avenue in Long Island City, where he kicked in a door panel and then stuck in his arm – and a loaded .38 caliber revolver – and began shooting wildly. Two of Harris’ bullets hit his ex-girlfriend’s new beau, Michael McCoy, 36. McCoy was struck once in the chest, killing him. Queens Supreme Court Justice Robert J. Hanophy indicated that he would sentence Harris to 17 and a half years to life in prison at a sentencing hearing scheduled for September 7. “The defendant [Harris] has admitted his guilt, waived his right to appeal and acknowledged that he was responsible for the shooting,” Brown said. “[He] is a threat to society and the sentence to be imposed… is more than warranted by what was a terrible crime.” The investigation was conducted by Detective Cary O’Connor of the New York City Police Department’s 114 Precinct Detective Squad. The was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Peter V. Lomp of the District Attorney’s Homicide Trials Bureau under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Jack Warsawsky, Deputy Bureau Chief and the overall supervision of Executive Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Charles A. Testagrossa and Deputy Executive Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Daniel A. Saunders.
