Adult Home Residents Plead For Free A/C

The Coalition of Institutionalized Aged and Disabled held a community meeting in Far Rockaway on August 10 to demand free air conditioning for adult homes. Residents from seven Rockaway nursing homes, Assembly member Michele Titus and staff from the office of City Councilman James Sanders were in attendance.
The New York State Department of Health, which licenses and regulates adult homes, does not require or subsidize air-conditioning for resident rooms. As a result, many have to endure dangerous heat conditions. “We need subsidies from the government for air-conditioning in order to keep people in adult homes healthy,” said Faye Rothenberg, a resident of Park Inn in Rockaway Park.
