Councilman Scores a Slam-Dunk for Far Rockaway Youths
By Jennifer Blair

The second annual Quentin B. Johnson memorial basketball tournament was off to a resounding success due to the generous support of Councilman James Sanders Jr and Julia Blair of Women and Children Family Enterprises Inc.

Every Saturday in July local kids are taught fundamental basketball and sportsmanship from dedicated and compassionate coaches; Kamel Cosgrove and Keefe Fuller both of Rockaway and Kyle Hollins of Brooklyn spend quality time with the children, teaching and monitoring basketball instruction.

This Saturday, July 30, will be the final day of games and awards ceremony for all participants. Bayswater Park will be filled with supporters and fans of our local phenomenal basketball players.

The young people truly benefit from the weekly basketball program, they have made new life-long friends, learned to play with all types of circumstances and situations, and have had the ability to have the tutelage of knowledgeable local basketball players.

We hope that our Council member will sponsor more events like this that will benefit the young people of the Rockaways.
