Local To Compete In Empire State Games

Seventeen-year-old Sharif Soliman, born and raised in Rockaway Beach and Broad Channel, was selected to be an assistant to New York City ice hockey head coach Craig Doremus in the Empire State Games in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on July 27, 2005. Sharif plays for the Long Beach Apple Core traveling hockey team. His family wishes to extend their gratitude to the community over the years: Jim McCann and Kennedy’s Restaurant and Harbor Light have sponsored the young boy throughout his career so far. Thanks also go to Mike Shea who has been the coach of Soliman since he was two years old. Sharif dedicates his playing career to the memory of one of his first coaches, Chris Keegan.
