Local Corps Lobby For Abandoned Firehouse

The Rock Ambulance Corps, a volunteer service made up primarily of local residents, has asked the city to turn over the abandoned firehouse on Beach 57 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard to them as a headquarters. Last week’s fire, set by squatters living in the brick building, only served to renew the corps’ interest in the building. The city, however, has so far been resistant to the idea. Pictured, at the building, Rock chief Pastor Donald Ventura, left and William Heath.
Some of the garbage left by squatters inside the building. Ventura said that there was at least 23 mattresses lined up in the abandoned firehouse.
