Can You Tell Us, Where And When?

For your perusal and enjoyment, some more photographs from Rockaway’s Past. This first picture was taken of the graduating class of St. Francis de Sales school in Belle Harbor in January of 1950. These eighth graders should be in their late 60’s around now and we would bet that many of them still live in the community. If you can identify any of the graduates, or if you were in the picture, let us know.
All we know of this vintage photograph is that it portrays a group of unknown Rockaway businessmen (there were few businesswomen then) and that they were gathered to celebrate the first subway train from Howard Beach to Rockaway over Jamaica Bay. Who were they? Where were they? What year was this photograph taken? If you can answer any of those questions, let us know.
