Sibling Rivalry Ends Happily On Softball Field

Sisters Victoria and Cassie Moriarty battled it out the past two Saturday mornings in the Rockaway Little League.

Victoria, a 4th grader at PS 114, plays for Shape Up in the second through fourth grade softball league. Younger sister Cassie, a 2nd grader at 114, plays for Kids Playhouse The teams met on Saturday, June 4th for an exciting game won by Kids Playhouse with a score of 13 to 9. The team, coached by Diana Zwirn, Joanne Shevlin and Irene Dana racked up their second win of the season.

On June 11th, chapter 2 of the sibling rivalry played out with Shape Up winning its first game of the season. Coaches Regina Carey and Barbara King were pleased with the score of 17-6. Both Victoria and Cassie played well in the field and at bat during both games.

On the 11th of June, Cassie did a fine job backing up the first baseman in right field. She got on base with a single and a walk, consistent with her performances in previous games. Excitement came early in the game when Victoria caught a fly ball in left field that initiated a triple play! Offensively, Victoria was also impressive with 2 singles and a triple. One can only anticipate the great game that should take place when the sisters meet again in next week’s play-offs.
