The Inner Voice by Marilyn Gelfand

This is the time of year for fun and relaxation. Our neighborhood has

traditionally been one of enjoying our beaches and making barbecues,

summer concerts and in the old days, Playland. Summers were the time

when people took vacations and things slowed down.

For myself, at work and all around me, I see that the change of summer

affects teachers and students, and the rest of us carry on as usual. The work pace remains the same and there are still a lot of expectations of what has to be done.

We must enforce our own enjoyment policy if we cannot be given a chance to regroup our energy.

We truly can create ourown happiness if we choose how to fill the precious spare time that we do have.

Besides making choices of good activities, we can also monitor our own

energy. If we stew about a lot of things that happened “yesterday”, we will miss today’s moments.

It is a good time to check if we are controlling our emotions or are they controlling us?

It is also mportant to remember that only the big things should bother us, and the rest we can detach from or deal with as it arises. It can be our choice to enjoy the summer regardless of the pace that is set for us by the

outside world.
