The Inner Voice by Marilyn Gelfand

I want to wish us all a very happy and satisfying new year. We don’t control our future events, but how we handle all the ups and downs of life, and how we keep our inner peace in the middle of it all is within our own ability to do. When we go to the beach, we watch the waves come and go through the ocean’s various tide cycles, storms and weather. To me, what I see when I go down to the beach is never exactly the same as the day before. There may be different animals or shells or clouds and the amount of boats change besides the ocean itself. In a similar fashion in our own lives each day is really never exactly the same as before.

I wish us all the ability to remain an observer as well as a participant in life. We have to remember to keep our sense of humor through it all. I hope we all find time to include what brings us joy. There is always a way to do something meaningful for yourself if you remember that it is important and keep your awareness in the present.

We can live peacefully even if we cannot predict future happenings. We trust that we can handle what will happen and that we will be paying attention to what information we get from our instincts. The key to remember is to stay in the present moment and make it rich. Every moment is a present moment, and if we remember to not allow our fears of the future to control our present, life has great moments of joy.
