Kathleen Conlon

Retired Loan Department Administrator

Kathleen Conlon, a Rockaway resident for 35 years, died December 18. She was 82.

Conlon, a retired loan department administrator for Chase Manhattan Bank, was born on April 24, 1923 in County Cavan, Ireland.

She is survived by her brother, Philip Conlon; and sister, Bridget McCabe.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Camillus Church. Interment was at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens, New York.

Rosemary A. DeCecco

Homemaker

Rosemary A. DeCecco, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died December 14. She was 65.

DeCecco, a homemaker, was born on January 8, 1940 in Rockaway Beach. She was a member of the First Congregational Church.

She is survived by her son, Frank DeCecco; and daughter-in-law, Frances DeCecco.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A service will be held on January 15, 2006 at the First Congregational Church in Rockaway Beach, 320 Beach 94 Street.

Idell Henderson

Maintenance Engineer

Idell Henderson, a Rockaway resident for over 50 years, died December 13. She was 92.

Henderson, a maintenance engineer for Isabella Nursing Home, was born on April 20, 1913 in Savannah, Georgia. She was also a member of the Thessolania Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Henderson.

Henderson is survived by her daughter, Arlene Cooper; grandsons, John Cooper (Nagelanda) and Mark Cooper; sisters, Elizabeth Lewis, Laura Walker, ad Helen Osborne; brother, Herman Drayton; goddaughter, Carolyn Borum; special cousins, Alberta Tasher and Earnestine Majett; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home with a service at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Interment was at Fairlawn Cemetery in Fairlawn, New Jersey.

Margaret Simmons-Jackson

Social Worker

Margaret “Patty” Simmons-Jackson, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died December 18. She was 54.

Simmons-Jackson, a social worker, was born on March 5, 1951 in Queens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alberta Howard and Charles Simmons; stepfather, Lige Boyd; and her husband, Alexander Jackson, Sr.

She is survived by her children, Shamar, Sharreiff, Shawana (Charles), Alexander Jr. (Sharita), Mark, and Richard; grandchildren, Kyasia, Laquashia, Alia, Isaiah, Devine, Sharreiff Jr., Shamarah, Elijah, Dominaz, Aukievah, and Mark Jr.; two brothers, Aquanata and Kevin; sisters, Joyce, Peggy, Elaine and Delores; step-children, Lavonni and Juanita; special friends, Richard Anderson and Sheila Davis; and many relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home with visitation and a service at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.

Robert J. Kearney

Electrician, Disney World Employee

Robert J. Kearney, a former Rockaway resident, died December 17. He was 36.

Kearney, an electrician and Disney World employee, was born on August 16, 1969 in Queens. He lived in Rockaway Beach until moving to Sanford, Florida five years ago.

He was preceded in death by his father, John J. Kearney.

Kearney is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth; mother, Mary Kearney; brothers, John, Albert, and Thomas; and sisters, Linda Bieber and Maureen Sentell.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Collison Family Funeral Home in Sanford, Florida. Funeral services were private.

Theresa M. Lembo

Seamstress

Theresa M. Lembo (nee Ursini), a Brooklyn resident who lived with her daughters in Belle Harbor for the past two years, died December 15. She was 75.

Lembo, a seamstress, was born on February 24, 1930. She was a member of the International Ladies Garments Workers Union.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Lembo; and grandson, Christopher.

Lembo is survived by her children, Elizabeth Lembo-Hila (Chris), Andrea Mangone (Steve), and Ralph; grandchildren, Elyssa, Steven, Briana and Christian; and brother, Mario.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Marine Park Funeral Home in Brooklyn. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Jude’s R.C. Church. Interment was at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village.

Fenton J. O’Malley

Retired Auditor

Fenton J. O’Malley, a former Rockaway resident, died December 19.

O’Malley, a retired auditor, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He moved to Rockaway Beach from the Bronx in 1967, and moved to Long Island in 1985. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II; was a past commander of the Daniel M. O’Connell Post 272 of the American Legion; a past president of the St. Camillus School Parent’s Association; an “uncle” of the St. Camillus Band; and a lector and Eucharistic minister at St. Camillus Church.

O’Malley was also a founding member of the Peninsula Volunteer Ambulance Corps; a fourth degree Knight at Gate of Heaven Council Knights of Columbus; a legionnaire at Northport American Legion Post 694; and a lector and Eucharistic minister at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Centerport, Long Island.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maureen E. O’Malley (nee Cunningham).

O’Malley is survived by his daughters, Anne Quinn (Cormac) from Charles Town, West Virginia, and Marie Korber (Joseph) of Richmond Hill, New York; grandsons, Kevin and Andrew Korber; many nieces and nephews; and companion and life partner, Dorothy Olsen, of Huntington, Long Island.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the M.A. Connell Funeral Home in Huntington Station, New York. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Centerport, New York. Interment was at Long Island National-Pinelawn in Farmingdale, New York.

Gary Perkins

Forklift Operator At JFK

Gary Perkins, a lifetime Rockaway resident, died December 8. He was 54.

Perkins, a forklift operator at JFK International Airport, was born on March 27, 1951 in Queens. He was also a member of the ACQC organization.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Mary Perkins; and his brother, Lester Perkins Jr.

He is survived by his daughter, Michellene Perkins; two granddaughters; several step-children; niece, Rosemary James; great-nieces, Zurema and Tiffini; great-great niece, Zaniya; nephew, Robert Perkins; great-great nephew, Joseph; stepbrother, Rufus Perkins; and many friends.

Funeral arrangements were provided by Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home with visitation and a service at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Disposition was held at Oxford Hills Crematory in Chester, New York.

John J. Ruff

U.S. Postal Service Supervisor

John J. Ruff, a Rockaway resident for 43 years, died December 12.

Ruff, a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service, was born in Brooklyn. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of The Daniel M. O’Connell

Post 272 of the American Legion in Rockaway Beach.

Ruff was preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda Alpert.

He is survived by his son, Robert; daughter, Joyce Aronovici; niece, Joan McLaughlin; granddaughters, Deborah Cavagnetto, and Elizabeth and Emily Ruff; and great-grandson, Tyler.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Church. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.

Derrick Samuel

Student

Derrick Samuel, a lifetime Rockaway resident, died December 11. He was 23.

Samuel, a student, was born on August 16, 1982 in Queens.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Buthine Samuel.

Joseph Stokes

Truck Driver

Joseph Stokes, a longtime Rockaway resident, died December 15.

Stokes, a truck driver, was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He also served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grady Williams Stokes.

Stokes is survived by his son, Andy Williams; daughters, Betty Graves and Stella Stokes; sister, Dasey Murphy; and many grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A service was held at Community Church of God in Christ in Arverne. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.

Edward J. Young Jr.

Retired Security Guard

Edward J. Young, a Rockaway resident for 35 years, died December 16.

Young, a retired Peninsula Hospital Center security guard, was born in Manhattan. He also served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

He is survived by his wife, Noreen Walsh Young; sons, Chip, Simon, Michael, and James; daughter, Heather Dalton; brothers, William and Thomas Young; sisters, Marianne Louis and Monica Henry; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were provided by the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Camillus Church. Interment was private.
