Police Find ‘Weed Farm’ In Local Apartment By Brian Magoolaghan
Cops stumbled upon a marijuana growing operation inside a Rockaway Beach apartment last week after a lamp used to cultivate the illicit crop sparked a fire that drew police and firefighters to the scene.
In response to a 911 call on December 14, police officers from the 100 Precinct entered a third floor apartment at 141 Beach 95 Street and found three large trash bags of dried and cured marijuana just inside the door, police said.
Apartment eight was rigged with an irrigation system, heat lamps, indoor growing lamps, timers and drying racks. Police said about 40 marijuana plants were thriving in the artificial environment.
“It was pretty much a weed farm there,” said a police source.
Police interviewed residents of other apartments at that address who said the apartment where the ‘weed’ farm was found had been unoccupied for some time. No arrests were made in connection with the find, but an investigation is ongoing.
