Stella Maris Students Go On Retreat

By Kristie Grosseta, Stella Maris Junior

  • On Tuesday, November 22, 45 spectacular juniors from Stella Maris High School graciously gave up their school day to visit the St. Joseph Renewal Center for a day of retreat. As the girls traveled to Brentwood, Long Island, they were accompanied by Sister Barbara Mackiewicz CSJ, Sister Grace Lynch CSJ, and Father Frank Spacek.
  • The theme for the retreat was “Looking in the Mirror.” In the morning, the girls played a wonderful game that helped them get to know one another more. Following that, the girls celebrated the Eucharist, and a few students read their poems and letters to God. Brianne Rogers and Evadne Figueroa shared two beautiful and very powerful poems expressing their thoughts on reflections and images.

After lunch, the girls went next door to Maria Regina Residence to visit the sick and infirmed residents.

In addition to this retreat, Stella Maris students sacrificed their time and effort to help cheer up others outside the school. Stella students sent a large number of cards to the soldiers fighting in the Middle East; and dozens of flowers were given to those in the Maria Regina Residence.

Encouraged by their teachers, Stella Maris students have always helped others through different events, proving that they are a part of a very generous and caring school in the Rockaways.
