Men Shot In Car Floor It To Hospital

Bullet holes dot the windshield of the victim

Two men put the pedal to the metal and raced to a local hospital Tuesday night after a gunman opened fire on their car in Far Rockaway and left them both with bullet wounds, police said.

The victims were stopped at the intersection of Chandler and Nameoke Streets at about 10:20 p.m. when the gunman stepped in front of the vehicle and began firing shots at the car, police said.

Four bullets tore through the windshield of the black two-door vehicle striking the driver, Michael Sancho, 25, in his stomach and right shoulder and the passenger, Marlon Rodriguez, 20, in his right leg.

The gunman fled and a wounded Sancho drove his car ¾ of a mile to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital on Beach 19 Street.

Police from the 101 Precinct responded to the hospital and the scene. Officers recovered four bullet fragments and eight shell casings but, despite an extensive search of the nearby Redfern Houses and Dix-McBride Apartments, did not find a suspect.

Police did however arrest Rodriguez because there was a warrant for his arrest.

Sancho and Rodriguez did not provide authorities with a description of their shooter. Police ask anyone with information to call the 101 Precinct Detective Squad at (718) 868-3428.
