  • Sgt. John Martinetion and P.O. Jason Ruland were honored as Cops of the Month at November’s 101 Precinct Community Council meeting for their arrest of a murder suspect in September.
  • Deputy Inspector Walter Salwoski described the circumstances leading up to the arrest before he presented the two officers with the awards.

After hearing a gunshot while on Beach 20th Street on September 1, Martinetion and Ruland took off on foot chasing a male suspect.

“These guys chased the guy with the gun and pursued him about two or three blocks,” explained Salowski, who said the cops got the suspect and a 40-caliber handgun off the streets with no struggle.

“They put themselves right in the face of danger, and they reacted accordingly,” continued Salowski. “They effectively arrested someone [who killed another person]. They did a truly great job.”
