‘Babes In Toyland’ At North Fork Theatre 12/18
The Schneider Children’s Hospital Children’s Series continues with Babes in Toyland at the North Fork Theatre at Westbury on Sunday, December 18 at 11am. Just in time for the holidays, Jack & Jill will be joined by the enchanting Toy Soldiers to take you on an unforgettable musical adventure through Toyland and the Magic Forest.
American Family Theater presents Babes in Toyland, a contemporary adaptation of the classic favorite. The production brings to life Jack and Jill, the Toy Soldiers and all the “girl and boyland” friends who share adventures in Toyland and the Magic Forest. The updated Babes in Toyland features songs that were introduced in Victor Herbert’s 1903 original, including “The March of the Toys”, “Toyland”, Toyland” and “I Can’t Do This Sum”. Award-winning playwright and composer, Don Kersey, has also created several new songs as a complement to the audience participation.
This captivating classic begins with the tinkle of a music box, and slowly one by one the characters come to life on stage. Alan, Mary, Widow Piper, Jack, Jill and Barnaby tell the story through dance in the amusing opening sequence. Suddenly the lights change, and we reach Toyland- a magical land filled with wonderful toys, delicious treats and the magical Goody GumDrop Tree! This classic story is a perfect treat for children and families that will keep you captivated from the opening dance till the dramatic conclusion. Unique movable modules portray the Magic Forest, Toyland and the Widow Piper’s House. Special lighting effects have been created to enhance the glittering sets.
