BCHS Hosts Senior Thanksgiving Feast

Beach Channel High School celebrated its seventh annual Thanksgiving Day dinner for nursing home residents and senior citizens living in Rockaway On Thursday, November 24.

Beach Channel students served a full turkey dinner to over 150 guests from Horizon, Park, Park Inn, Glorias Manor and Resort nursing homes.  Additional guests were from the Seaside Community Center and local church parishes.

Dr. Morris, Principal, and Mr. Brevetti, Assistant Principal at BCHS, welcomed and thanked the seniors for being a part of our Thanksgiving Day dinner. The administration also thanked the staff and students of Beach Channel who generously donated time, food and money to support this event.

This year Irene LoRe, Culinary Supervisor for Region 5, worked with Mrs. Murray and the culinary program to prepare most of the food.  Other donations of food and drinks came from local families, St. Rose of Lima, Affordable Auto and the Chamber of Commerce.

A group of students from St. Francis de Sales Religious Education program brought and served salad to the guests.  Many of the volunteers also brought pies.

Local families appeared at the feast this year to lend a helping hand.  The Murray, Tsatis, Carter, Nevers, Cashen, Torpey, Chiarantano and McCann families all worked at serving food.  Vince Murphy and teachers Mr. Tuccio, Ms. Halloran and Mr. Rosenzweig volunteered as well.  Other school personnel including the Office of Food and Nutrition, the Custodial Staff and School Safety all pitched in to make this event a success.

As usual, the seniors had a great time and were sent home with doggy bags.
