Kearney’s varsity completed its tenth consecutive season as Brooklyn Champs, with a league record of 13-0. The season posed many challenges, but the team played well and welcomed the newcomers. Senior captain Maura O’Callaghan led the team in kills, while senior co-captain Ashley Delea could be counted on for the most assists and great setting. Kanika Dunn and Morgan Shannon (Rockaway Park) were high scorers in many of the games and Brianna Marcelline was a great blocker.

Morgan Shannon was also a great right side hitter. The team won victories two against each of the following schools: St. Edmund’s, Nazareth, Bishop Ford, St. Saviour, Bishop Loughlin Stella Maria and Fontbonne. They went on to defeat St. Francis Prep in the diocesan semi-finals, but lost to Molloy in the finals. At the state championships, Kearney defeated Nardin and Kellenberg in the first two matches, but didn’t advance to the finals.

Octobers 13th was Kearney’s last home game for the seniors: Maura O’Callaghan, Ashley Delea, Ashley Fallon (Breezy Point), Kanika Dunn, Chrissy Kirk (Rockaway Point) and Morgan Shannon.

Their fellow teammates paid tribute to the wonderful times they had shared.

In turn, the seniors took the opportunity to thank all those who had supported them through the years.
