Fontbonne Hall JV Volleyball Falls to Mighty Molloy
The Brooklyn-Queens Volleyball season ended abruptly on Sunday, November 6 th for the Fontbonne Bonnie squads. Facing Christ the King on Wednesday, the Bonnies won a five set thriller (25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-9), to advanced into the semi-finals. Led by Angelica Fusco, Kristina Lundberg, Alair Sheehan and Liz Lang the Bonnies refused to give up against King and were hopeful to carry that play into Sunday’s action.
Unfortunately Sunday found the Varsity facing a powerhouse Archbishop Molloy team. From the opening serve the Bonnies were on the defensive against Molloy’s strong hitting game. The final 3-0 loss was only the 3rd loss of the season ending a very successful campaign. The Fontbonne Varsity now advances to the New York State “B” Championship.
In the last game of the day on Sunday the Bonnie JV came out flat in their semi-final match against St Francis Prep. Despite several moments of intense action and a small early lead the JV was never able to put together a strong run to close a game. The 2-0 (25-23, 25-20) loss ended the dream of a second consecutive JV championship as well as a string of 22 consecutive wins in the regular season and playoffs.
The Fontbonne Varsity went into the final action of the year on Friday November 11th at the state B Championships at Cardinal Spellman High School. The Bonnies were never able to get in sync against tough upstate opponents including St. Catherine, Our Lady of Mercy and Maria Regina. The Varsity Bonnies went 0-6 and were eliminated in the first days action.
