SFDS CYO Basketball

The beginning of November brought the start of boys action. The Pee Wee A’s opened with a 25-11 win against OLPH. Dennis Barnes topped all scorers with 8. Kevin Kenna controlled the boards on both ends. Dylan Evans and Thomas Clark set up their teammates and ran the offense with precision from their guard positions. Christopher Cole and Liam Gallagher put the game out of reach with a couple of long range jump shots in the 4th quarter.

The Pee Wee B’s fared just as well against St. Thomas More. Michael Buckley poured in 14 and Owen McVeigh 8 while Ryan Schonfeld and Patrick Cashin directed the attack as SFDS won 27-13. The Novices won handily over St. Virgilius. The Bantams won by forfeit as Holy Child failed to show. The Rookies got off to a slow start against Our Lady of Grace, leading 16-13 at the half. Much better defense and rebounding after the break combined with crisp ball movement, led to many easy baskets as they pulled away for a 41-15 victory.

The Intermediate girls continued on their merry way, 34-12 over Our Lady of Mercy. Allison Dunn and Molly McNulty netted 10 each and Kathryn Edwards 8. The Rookies played the most exciting game of the weekend, falling short in a spirited battle with Sacred Heart 38-37. Annette Scotto and Rebecca Moers led the scoring but it was truly a team effort as they battled back from an early deficit to take it down to the wire. Mary Ellen Woods scored 6, Lisa Pellegrini 4 and Erin Klein 2 as the Subnovice A played Sacred Heart. Emma Knox, Cassie Moriarty, Serena Yanello, and Jenna Tipaldo shined for the Subnovice B against Gate of Heaven.
