Banner Trashed At First Congregational Church

Members of the First Congregational Church on Beach 94 Street were shocked and saddened last Thursday after a religious banner hanging outside the church was ripped down and destroyed. The church’s pastor, Reverend Jan Powell, told The Wave a special forgiveness service was held during services last Sunday, and a new banner outside the church invites whoever destroyed the original to visit the church. “Somebody took the time to cut it up,” Powell explained, “They’re in a lot of pain.” A new banner – same as the one that was ruined – has been donated and will go up next week.
