SFDS Teams Stay Unbeaten In CYO Basketball
Three weeks into the Fall CYO basketball season, 3 SFDS teams remain unbeaten. Allison Dunn, Kathryn Edwards, and Molly McNulty scored 8 each as the Intermediates (4-0) outscored St. Thomas More 30-16. The Bantams (3-0) have not yet hit their stride but doubled up OLPH 28-14 off some excellent defense from Rachel Gersh and Erin Nuszer. This followed earlier wins over St. Thomas More and St. Stan’s in a nailbiter.
Daisy Trusttum and Megan Atwood paced the PeeWee B’s (4-0) past Resurrection Ascension 14-4, Our Lady of Grace 18-4 and St. Margaret 6-0 in a defensive struggle. Samantha Scaccia, Ginna Davan, Amie McManus, Anastasia O’Byrne, Meaghan King, and Shannon DeSilvia all tickled the nets in different games.
The Rookies(3-1) bounced back from a loss to Our Lady of Hope with wins over Our Lady of Grace, 3911, and St. Stan’s 32-21. Allison McGovern poured in 12 and Rebecca Moers 8 against OLG while Fallon Mullen and Cristina Cordes supplied the ‘D.’ Moers shared the scoring load against Stan’s with Taylor Conroy, Annette Scotto, and Kim Newman while Kathryn Foris assumed the defensive stopper role. The Novice squad (2-1) suffered its first defeat at the hands of St. Thomas More. The Pee Wee A’s continued their uphill effort against St. Margaret and St. Mary Gate of Heaven. Their reward remains just out of reach but getting closer.
The Subnovice season began with a tilt between the A and B teams. Taylor Vegh and Kayla Kilgallen displayed the poise of veterans for the B’s. Courtney Blum led the A’s who also took on Gate of Heaven with a ‘short’ handed squad due to a conflicting soccer game. Kerri Rose Brennan, Erika Sorenson, Kayla Rayder, Julia Carey and Lisa Pellegrini held the fort in the absence of their remaining teammates. The boys join the mix this weekend. Games at SFDS begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 on Sunday.
