Jesus Malave Retired Housing Worker

  • Jesus Malave, a Rockaway resident for over 30 years, died October 21. He was 69.
  • Malave, a retired city housing worker, was born on April 6, 1936 in Puerto Rico.

    He is survived by his wife, Brunilda; daughters, Marisol, Evelyn, Angelina, Yvette, Maria, and Hilda; son, Armando; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to John’s Funeral Home in Brooklyn. Interment was at La Vega in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico.

    Maurice Anthony McBean

    Welder

    Maurice Anthony McBean, a Rockaway resident for more than 25 years, died October 16. He was 63.

    McBean, a welder, was born on November 11, 1941 in Kingston, Jamaica. He was a star player on the Jamaica National Soccer team.

    He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joyce; children, Allison, Germaine, Quianna, Garfield, Alford and Maurice Jr.; three stepchildren, Janet, Julian and Arlene; grandchildren, Sasha, Tyler, Germaine Jr., Imani and Joshua; brothers, KenRoy and Frederick; sisters, Barbara and Nora; son-in-law, Gary; and other relatives and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, with visitation and a service at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery in Great Neck, New York.

    Dehlmeen Ann Palmer

    Health Care Worker

    Dehlmeen Ann (nee Devore) Palmer, a Rockaway resident for more than 15 years, died October 16. She was 40.

    Palmer, a health care worker, was born on April 1, 1965 in Chicago, Illinois. In 1985, Palmer enlisted in the United States Army Reserve, where she served as an Operating Room Specialist, and received the Service Ribbon Badge for sharpshooting and expert qualifications in hand grenades.

    She is survived by her mother, Dorothea (nee Cochran) DeVore; brother, Joseph R. DeVore Jr. (Rhonda); sisters, Barbara Butler and Evern Fann; grandmother, Louise Perry; great-aunt, Mozetta Harris; and other relatives and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment was at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Astoria.

    Anne P. Prior

    Keypunch Operator

    Anne P. Prior, a Rockaway resident for 30 years, died October 20.

    Prior, who worked as a keypunch operator, was born in Queens. She was a member of the St. Thomas More-St. Edmund Altar Rosary Society, the St. Thomas More Golden Age Club, and the Breezy Point Catholic Club.

    She is preceded in death by her husband, John J. Prior.

    She is survived by her son, John Prior; daughters, Marybeth Collins, Kathleen McDonald, and Nancy Judge; sister, Elizabeth Gallagher; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. Visitation was held at the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church in Rockaway Point. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, New York.

    Carlos Sanford Rodriques

    Ramp Agent

    Carlos Sanford Rodriques, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died October 16. He was 34.

    Rodriques, a ramp agent, was born on November 3, 1970 in Far Rockaway.

    He is survived by his mother, Carmen Rodriques; father, Redonia Sanford; seven brothers, Kevin, Booker T., Elliott, Joseph, Lamont and Jamal Sanford, and Alburtis Rodriques; six sisters, Carmelita, Lisa, Delores, Koretney, Alberetta, and Terrill Sanford; and other family and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, with visitation and a service at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Disposition was at Oxford Hills Crematory in Chester, New York.

    Betty Ann Woods

    Nursing Assistant

    Betty Ann Woods, a Rockaway resident for over 20 years, died October 19. She was 55.

    Woods, a nursing assistant, was born on March 16, 1950 in Brooklyn.

    She is preceded in death by both her parents and brother, Halmark (Rico) Woods.

    She is survived by her two children, Brian Keith Woods and Latonia Monique Woods-Chisolm (Martin); sister, Gwendolyn Woods; two granddaughters, Crystal Woods and Tamari Chisolm; two nieces, Shalene Woods and Yolanda Tate; two nephews, Churon “Lil Rico” Woods and Matthew Woods; three aunts, Georgette Dilworth, Bessie Braswell and Sissie Braswell; four uncles, Al, Hazel and Hezekiah Braswell, and Rowland Richard; special cousins, Susan Williams, Sally Ann Braswell, Charlie Williams, Sumner Dilworth, and Kenneth Hartley; special friend, Victoria Pink; and other relatives and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, with visitation and a service at Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Interment was at Plainlawn Cemetery in Hicksville, New York.
