PHC Appoints New Director Of Surgery
Peninsula Hospital Center has appointed a new Director of Surgery, Simra E. Shein, M.D. Shein, a resident of the Rockaway community, has been affiliated with the Hospital Center since 1971. Shein graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, Columbia University and SUNY-Downstate on a NYS Medical Scholarship. His internship was completed at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City. As a member of the Medical Corps, Shein served on active duty with the US. Naval Reserve.
When his tour of duty ended, Shein returned to complete his residency in general surgery at the Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn. Shein is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow the American College of Surgeons. He is a general surgeon and in addition, does surgery of the hand. He currently has an active private practice in the Rockaways and in Cedarhurst. “I have enjoyed practicing at Peninsula Hospital Center,” commented Shein, “because of the closer relationships of medical staff, nurses and other employees with patients. The more personal level of attention to patients is remarkable in this era and I have had many appreciative comments.” Shein and his wife, Elaine, have five children and six grandchildren.
