St. Francis De Sales Begins Basketball Season

The 2005-06 CYO Basketball season got underway this past weekend with games on Sunday. Coach Randy Neiswenter’s Novice girls posted the highlight of the day with an easy win over Nativity. Taylor Butigan tossed in 10 points, while Marissa Scotto and Athena McDonald-Smith added 4 each. Kristin Henschel and Megan LaCognata provided the hustle and defense that shut down the Nativity offense.

Joe Kenel took his Intermediates to St. Thomas More with only an iron five of Molly McNulty, Allison Dunn, Kathryn Edwards, Jessica Iori, and Caroline Clark available for duty. McNulty dropped 14 on the hosts and St. Francis returned home with a 24-10 win. Taylor Conroy and Annette Scotto paced Jay Boyle’s Rookies as they outran St. Margaret’s 23-9.

Rebecca Moers, Danielle Farragher and Vanessa Ramos were the defensive stars. Kristin O’Grady Franchock made her coaching debut with the PeeWee B’s who held off St. Thomas More 7-4. Caitlin Byrne scored 5, Gina Davan 2 and Daisy Trusttum was the defensive stopper.

The PeeWee A’s were not as fortunate, running into a buzzsaw from Our Lady of Hope, but coach Maureen Gigliello’s squad is sure to bounce back. Games are scheduled this Saturday and Sunday at St. Francis de Sales gym. The schedule is tentative due to conflicts with soccer but come by, have a hot dog and a drink, enjoy the action, and root for the home team!
