Gregory Eugene Keitt Baker
Keitt, a baker, was born on September 24, 1955 in Elloree, South Carolina. He joined the U.S. Army in 1976, where he served most of his tour in Germany. He was a member of the Beth-El A.M.E. Church of Arverne.
He is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Ralphford Jones Sr.; sister, Emma Keitt-Jamison; brother, Arnette Keitt; and sister-in-law, Rhonda Jones.
He is survived by his sons, Amar and Staff Sergeant Rashid Keitt; daughter, Malika Keitt; daughter-in-law, Carlisa Keitt; seven grandchildren, Amar Jr., Anfernee, Prince, Anitra, Jayonna, Shavar and Shavon; mother-in-law, Bernice Jones; brothers, Reverend A. Chappell Keitt, Raymond Keitt (Elizabeth), Joseph Keitt (Laverne), and Michael Keitt (Beverly); sisters, Ruth Thomas (George), Joy Eyvonne Sommersett, Mary Ann Keitt, and Loretta Ayibiowu (Blessing); brother-in-law, Ralph Jones; sisters-in-law, Geneva Jones, Renee Bell (Brian), and Brenda Williams (Joseph); uncle, Nathaniel Keitt (Bertha); aunt, Mamie B. Keaton; special niece, Bluett Grogan; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home. Visitation and a service were held at Macedonia Baptist Church in Arverne. Interment was at Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island.
Theresa Keyser, a Rockaway resident for 60 years, died October 17.
Keyser, a nurse’s aide, was born in Manhattan.
She is survived by her sons, George and William Lee; sisters, Joan Sugliak, Patricia Ray, and Anne Lyons; and grandchildren, Cody and Dillon.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Camillus Church. Interment was at Gate of Heaven in Valhalla, NY.
Beatrice McCray-Hines, a Rockaway resident for over 15 years, died on October 10. She was 77.
McCray-Hines, a nurse’s aide, was born on July 21, 1928 in Wilson, North Carolina. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Springfield Gardens, where she was a choir member and usher.
McCray-Hines is preceded in death by her mother and grandparents; brother, John L. Yancy; and sister, Lola Mae Yancy.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Hines-Perdue; son-in-law, Christopher Perdue; grandchildren, Zina M. Hines, Jeanniene N. Pierce, and Sharod Perdue; great-grandchildren, Zakiya Hines, Justin Hines, India Crocker, and Tahina Pierce; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home. Visitation and service were held at Outreach Church of God in Christ in Lawrence. Interment was at Plainlawn Cemetery in Hicksville, New York.
Darrell O’Neal, a lifetime Rockaway resident, died on October 10. He was 34.
O’Neal, known as “Wise,” was a barber who worked at Timbuktu in Coney Island. He was born in Far Rockaway on April 10, 1971.
He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Boyd; grandmother, Anne Penn; brothers, Tommy Boyd and Tyrone O’Neal; sister-in-law, Malinda Boyd; seven children, Tamika, Dominique, Darrell Jr., Jacquel, EverFurness, Jarious, and Twenty One; uncle, Richard; aunts, Betty, Lynn, Rosa Lee, and Pauline; nephews, Tommy Jr. and TyQuan; niece, Quatasia; fiancée, Sharlet; mothers of his children, Relaya Howell, Tracey Parker, and Tamika Gray; The Francis, Gardners, Howell and Bell families; cousin, Irving “Pop” McCoy; godmother, Lynn; niece, Roslyn; and other family and friends.

Mary A. Salomons
Mary A. Salomons, a Rockaway resident for 30 years, died on October 18.
Salomons, a registered nurse for 45 years, worked at Coney Island Hospital. She was born in Brooklyn.
She is survived by her sisters, Walda Salomons and Nancy Flaherty (Ed); nephews, Edward and Sean Flaherty; and niece, Patricia Flaherty.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 21 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Church on Saturday, October 22 at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Leon Malcolm Skates, a Rockaway resident for over 30 years, died on October 2. He was 63.
Skates was born on January 14, 1942 in Campbell County, Virginia. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. Skates was a member of the First Church of God, where he was a member of the Sanctuary Choir, an elder, deacon and trustee, church and new convert teacher, and youth president.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty Jean; mother, Anita Harris; aunts, Dorothy Madison and Ava Morrison; daughter, Sonya (Lance); sons, Bishop Timothy J. Georgia Mae Stephens
Georgia Mae Stephens, a Rockaway resident for over 50 years, died on October 13. She was 77.
Stephens, a domestic homecare worker, was born on April 9, 1928 in Crawfordville, Georgia. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Arverne.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ernest, Wardell, Robert, and Willie Stephens; sister, Idella Dennis; common law husband, Irvin Heggs, Sr.; daughters, Stacey Ann Stephens Amagwu and Janice Mobley; grandson, Michael Philip Dickerson; and great granddaughter, Amyiesha Stephens.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy, Donna, Brenda, Paulette, Lorraine, Barbie, Susie and Gloria; sons, Larry and Richard; daughter-in-law, Dariton Stephens; son-in-laws, Phillip Dickerson, Michael Jackson, and Wendell Daniels; sisters, Ruth Mae Baskin, Katherine Jackson and Yvonne Stephens; 29 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; special niece, Judy Ross; and other family and friends.
