Since emerging from the Toronto folk club scene in the early ‘60s, Gordon Lightfoot has recorded 20 albums. His newest release, Harmony is a stunning collection of new and previously unreleased songs, a culmination of his work over his past few difficult years. After a burst artery in September of ’02, Lightfoot underwent emergency surgery and was in a coma for 6 weeks. Gordon has since shown his resilience in working through what was a long recovery period in which the band often brought work into the hospital. The result is Harmony, with a haunting ballad for the title track, followed by the traveling tale of River of Light . The first single Inspiration Lady is yet another inspiring ballad of love and adoration. Since the May 11th release, Lightfoot has been back on his feet touring the country with a new energy and new material.
Gordon Lightfoot has five Grammy nominations and has won 17 Juno Awards in his native Canada. In 1970, in recognition of his contributions in furthering Canadian culture, he received the prestigious Order of Canada citation; and has been presented the Governor General’s Award- the highest official Canadian honor, which is conferred on very few for their international efforts in spreading Canadian culture. Lightfoot’s impressive career started out when he became a mainstay in the Toronto fold music scene, and was a featured performer on Canadian television. In 1969, after recording five groundbreaking albums with United Artists, he signed to Warner Brothers/Reprise Records, where he recorded enduring works such as If You Could Read My Mind, Summertime Dream, Endless Wire, Shadows, and Salute. Lightfoot also recently released a four-CD, 88-track box-set retrospective entitled Gordon Lightfoot: Songbook that highlights his strikingly rich, vibrato-soaked baritone voice.
