Queens Library Announces New Policies

The Queens Borough Public Library has introduced several new policies that became effective October 1, which will provide greater access and service to customers.

Fines and Fees policies have been revised to encourage customers to return materials on time, so others may enjoy library books and other materials. Funds collected through fines and fees are used to pay for free educational and cultural programs each year, and other improvements in local branches.

Revised Fines Policy

-Books, periodicals, audiocassettes, records, CDs: 10 cents for children and seniors, 25 cents for adults.

-Videos, DVDs: $1 for children and seniors, $3 for adults.

-Multi-media sets (per title): $3 for children, seniors and adults.

Revised Fees Policy

-Lost library card: $2

-Missing item label: $1

-Non-N.Y.S. resident library card (one year): $50

-Collection agency service fee: $6

-Returned check fee: $25

-Lost video case: $2

-Lost CD or cassette case: $1

-Lost blue picture envelope: 50 cents

-Lost/damaged multi-media materials processing: $8

The Queens Library’s revised and expanded Renewal Policy permits almost all library materials, including multi-media, to be renewed. In addition, customers may renew overdue materials through the Library’s website at www.queenslibrary.org/myaccount , or call (718) 990-8508.
