SUV Slams Utility Pole On Beach 108 Street,Flips

The driver and passenger of a Nissan Pathfinder were hospitalized early last Friday morning after the SUV struck a utility pole and flipped over in Rockaway Beach, police said.

Richmond Hill resident Nirangan Persaud, 31, was driving westbound on Rockaway Beach Boulevard just after 3 a.m. when he lost control on the rainslicked road and slammed his vehicle into a utility pole near Beach 107 Street. The impact ripped the utility pole out of the ground and turned the SUV on its roof.

Persuad and his passenger, Devanend Persaud, 30, were brought by EMS to Jamaica Hospital where they were treated for minor head injuries. Both men were wearing seatbelts and the Pathfinder was equipped with airbags.
