Cop Traumatized By Shooting

A local police officer was hospitalized for trauma last Friday night after he shot three times at a suspect who pointed a handgun at him in Far Rockaway, The Wave has learned.

Police became suspicious when the man, described only as a dark-skinned male wearing a blue windbreaker and black sneakers, spotted their patrol vehicle near 22-59 Dix Avenue and started to run. An officer gave chase and the man pulled a black handgun and aimed it at the officer, sources said. The cop fired three shots at the man, who dodged the bullets and got away.

The shaken officer was brought to a local hospital where he was treated for trauma, sources said. Police have identified a suspect, but no arrest had been made at press time.
