Berran, who was born in Brooklyn, lived in Fort Hamilton before moving to Rockaway. She worked as an office manager.
Berran is survived by her brother, Reverend Donald M. Berran, and cousin, Patricia Berran.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas More on Friday, October 7, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside.
James W. Flood
NYC Transit Authority
James W. Flood, a Rockaway resident for five years, died September 30.
Flood, a bus operator for the New York City Transit Authority, was born in Brooklyn. He was a member of the Diamond Point Yacht Club in Canarsie.
He is survived by his friends, Dottie, Barbara, Harry and Barbara Prigge, and Charles and Cheryl Volkens; his godson, Harold; and a niece, Genevieve.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Genevieve Church in Roxbury on Friday, October 7 at 10 a.m. Other arrangements were kept private.
Agnes (nee Brunning) Melsom
Longtime Belle Harbor Resident
Agnes (nee Brunning) Melsom, a longtime resident of Astoria and Belle Harbor, died October 2 at her home on Long Island. She was 87.
Melsom, who was described as a supporter of the Catholic Church, was a retired executive secretary for the City of New York.
She is survived by her husband, Fred, of 65 years; children, Gary, Karen Garcia, Geralyn Ruddick, Rosemary Kessler and Stephen; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville, Long Island. A Funeral mass was celebrated at St. Lawrence RC Church in Sayville, LI.

Marlene Murphy, a Rockaway resident for 40 years, died October 3.
Murphy, the former proprietor of the Roxbury Barn Restaurant, was born in London, England.
She is survived by her husband, Vincent C. Murphy; sons, Edward Smith (Maud), and Kevin Smith-Murphy (Tina); brothers, Peter Noonan (Patricia), and Bernard Noonan (Tracey); grandchildren, Kiernan and Charley Smith; nephews, Sean, Peter and Kerry; and nieces, Moira and Meghan.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 7, 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Church on Saturday, October 8, at 9:45 a.m. Interment will be at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.
Dolores “Mama Lola” Vasquez
Bell Boy Cleaners Spotter
Dolores Vasquez, a Rockaway resident, died on October 3. She was 74.
Vasquez, who was also known as “Mama Lola,” was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico. She was employed for 20 years at Bell Boy Cleaners and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church. Vasquez was an organizer in her church and participated in many community benefit functions.
She is survived by her daughters, Millie, Vivian, Miriam, Evelyn and Marilyn; sons, Gilberto, Enrique and William; grandchildren; and great-granddaughters, Ciara and Florinda.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 7 at 9:45 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island.
Rosa Lee Zanders
Rosa Lee Zanders, a longtime Rockaway resident, died on September 23. She was 76.
Zanders was born on October 16, 1928 in Cincinatti, Ohio to Emmaline Harris and Isaac Esau. She was one of four children. Her family nickname was “Firecracker Rose,” after her famous Fourth of July festivities.
Zanders was preceded in death by her husband, William Zanders, in 1984.
She is survived by her children, William, Tina and Sheila; eight grandchildren, La’Mont, Natasha, Ra’Mon, Jonathan and Jason, Omar, Ashley and Qyianna; great-grandson, Jason William Jr.; son-in-law, Ivan Dudley; his mother, Beulah Lee Dudley and family; cousins, Geraldine Grey and her daughters Barbara Ann and Sadrina; Donald and Bonnie Harris and family, Denise and Antoine Mitchell; Elbert and Joyce Johnson and family; Loretta Forney, Jean and Willie, Regina and Rebbie; Henrietta Brown and family; friends, Bertha Lee, Joanna, Cynthia, Betty, Alberta; and other family and friends.
