  • Andre F. Anderson, a lifetime Rockaway resident, died September 25. He was 14.
  • Anderson, a student, was born on February 18, 1991.

    He is survived by his mother, Audrey; father, Clive; brother, Clive Jr.; sisters, Debbie Ann, Crystal, Kione, and Schinique; and other family members and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, September 30 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. A service will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church on Saturday, October 1, at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery.

    Elijah J. Andrews

    Elijah J. Andrews, who was born in Brooklyn, died on September 20. He was five months old.

    Andrews was born on April 2, 2005. His parents are lifetime residents of Far Rockaway.

    He is survived by his mother, Angelique Andrews; three sisters, Miracle, Angel and Faith; three uncles, Rasheen, John and Solomon; aunt, Amazing; three great-aunts, Ella Page, Mildred Page and Emma Page; two grandmothers; godmother, Omi Day; and relatives and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home. Visitation and service were held at Beth-El Temple Church of God in Christ. Disposition was at Oxford Hills Crematory in Chester, New York.

    Donna Marie Murtagh Bain

    Mother, Animal Rescuer

    Donna Marie Murtagh Bain, a Belle Harbor resident, died on September 23. She was 35.

    Murtagh, a mother and animal rescuer, was a graduate of Stella Maris High School and Hofstra University.

    She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas.

    Bain is survived by her husband, Edward; son, Thomas Peter; brother, William (Cyndy); niece, Nianoa; mother, Jackie Murtagh Adams; stepfather, Mickey; and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Church.

    Naima Natacha Benjamin

    Naima Natacha Benjamin, who was born in Far Rockaway, died September 8. She was 13 days old.

    Naima was born on August 26, 2005.

    She is survived by her parents, Bolday White and Natacha Benjamin; grandmother, Yurose; grandfather, Frexnel; godparents, Joseph and Rosie; and other family and friends.

    Charles Clay Carson Jr.

    Charles Clay Carson Jr., a Rockaway resident for 55 years, died on September 22. He was 73.

    Carson, a maintenance worker, was born on July 14, 1932 in Iredell County, North Carolina.

    He is survived by his wife, Ethel; children, Sheila, Ricky, Charles, Cheryl, Cynthia and Curtis; grandson Darius; other grandchildren; brother, Thad Carson; sisters, Bessie Wilson, Jessie Hayes; Shirley Smith and Neelie Levy; son-in-law to be, Phillip; and other relatives and friends.

    Steven Chamberlain

    Steven Chamberlain, a Rockaway resident for 30 years, died September 22. He was 53.

    Chamberlain, a painter, was born on May 12, 1952 in Richmond County, South Carolina.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Edward Chamberlain; sisters, Linda Chamberlain and Beulah Chamberlain-Murray; and brothers, George Chamberlain and Chris Hayes.

    He is survived by his children, Tawana Morgan-Robinson, and Hausan and Steven Clausell; seven grandchildren, Hausan, Donte, Jazzmen, Malik, James Jr., Isaiah and Taysean; sisters, Glenda, Patricia and Barbara; brother, Jerome; son-in-law, James Robinson Jr.; sister-in-law, Carmen; brothers-in-law, Clyde, Raymond and Carl; and other relatives and friends.

    Robert Lee Chandler

    Robert Lee Chandler, a lifetime Far Rockaway resident, died on September 18. He was 25.

    Chandler, who was known as “Pooh,” was born on February 27, 1980. He was a choir member of St. John’s Baptist Church.

    He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Ransom Brown; and uncle, David “Bobo” Cochran.

    He is survived by his mother, Deborah Chandler; father, Robert Welfare Jr.; grandmothers, Lucille Brown and Eunice McDowell; grandfathers, William McDowell and Robert Welfare Sr.; brothers, Elton and Kaheim Chandler; sister, Starasia Chandler; uncles, Elton Brown, Richard Brown and David Welfare; aunts, Queenie and Pattie Brown, and Carlette and Dorothy Welfare; nephews, Kaheim Niquan and Hassan Chandler; nieces, Brooklyn Rose Bruggeman Chandler, Emaya Anna Scarbrough, and Tiniya Neveah Chandler; Tanieka Tharokmorton, who is pregnant with his unborn child; and other family members and friends.

    Salesman, Newspaper Man

    Ernest Henry, a Rockaway resident for over 50 years, died on September 12. He was 76.

    Henry, a salesman and newspaper man, was born on February 14, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey. He worked at Plaza and New Jersey Office Supply, the Star Ledger of New Jersey and the New York Times.

    He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; daughter, Rene; son, Ernest Jr.; brother, Robert “Sonny”; and sister, Dorothy “Dot.”

    He is survived by his children, Barsai, Deborah and Michelle; brothers, William Henry and Albert Henry; sisters, Zenobia Littlejohn, Alma Hicks and Sennet Carson; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and family and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Perry Funeral Home in Newark, New Jersey, where visitation was also held. Disposition was at Fairmont Crematory in Newark, New Jersey.

    Mary Theresa Higgins

    Mary Theresa Higgins, a Rockaway resident for 30 years, died on September 22. She was 76.

    Higgins, a bank clerk, was born in the Bronx.

    She is survived by her cousins, Jane Higgins, Kathleen Poyer, Georgia Wood and Bill Harrington; and friends, Margaret and Eileen Kugel.

    Harvey Malings

    Sanitation Worker

    Harvey Malings, a Rockaway resident for over 35 years, died September 22. He was 77.

    Malings, a sanitation worker, served in the Army and was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. in Broad Channel and Howard Beach.

    He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Malings; and mother, Matilda Malings.

    He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; daughter, Roberta Daley; sisters, Annette Gelfand and Charlotte Kaminsky; and brother, Sanford “Buddy” Malings.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hillebrand’s Funeral Home. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery in New York.

    Edwin “Eddie” Martinez

    Carpenter

    Edwin “Eddie” Martinez, a Rockaway resident for 25 years, died September 26.

    Martinez, a carpenter, was born in Puerto Rico. His family said that he touched the lives of all he met.

    He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Nerney Martinez; son, Christopher Michael Martinez; daughter, Christine Aida Martinez; brothers, Miguel and Hector Martinez; sisters, Carmen D. Martinez Henriquez, Carmen Martinez Feliciano, and Marisol Martinez Irvis; and 14 nieces and nephews.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment was at Cypress Hill in Brooklyn.

    Frances Moore

    Home Health Assistant

    Frances Moore, a longtime Far Rockaway resident, died September 21. She was 86.

    Moore, a home health assistant, was born on November 8, 1919 in St. Matthews, South Carolina. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1962.

    Moore is survived by her son, Steven Curtis; granddaughter, Patrice Curtis; and “special friends” Rose and Harold Chancy.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, with a service at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery in Great Neck.

    John E. Otton

    Accountant

    John E. Otton, a Rockaway resident for more than 40 years, died September 27.

    Otton, an accountant, was from Brooklyn. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

    He is preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie Otton.

    He is survived by his wife, Arlene M. Maloney Otton; sons, John, James, Joseph, Richard, Dennis, Daniel, Michael, and Raymond; daughters, Kathy Hocheim, Patricia Trainor, Michele O’Casio, Margaret Kennedy, Tracy Carroll, Kathleen McCosker, Erin Otton, Shannon Otton, and Mary Otton; 32 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 30 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales on Saturday, October 1, at 9:45 a.m. Interment will be held at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village.

    Al Schulman

    Active Resident

    Al Schulman, a resident of the Peninsula Hospital Rehabilitation Center, died on September 18. He was 95.

    Schulman was a World War II veteran and a member of the Jewish War Veterans in Rockaway Park. He participated for many years in the Meals On Wheels program, and was active in many theater productions in the Rockaways.

    He is survived by his wife, Mildred; son, Michael; daughter, Eleanor; granddaughter, Elizabeth; son-in-law, Kjell; and sister, Jennie.
