Dr. Geraldine Chapey and Marilyn Blicksilver congratulate Zoe Blicksilver on her Bat MitzvahDr. Geraldine Chapey and Marilyn Blicksilver congratulate Zoe Blicksilver on her Bat Mitzvah Congratulations to Marilynn Blicksilver on the occasion of her granddaughter Zoe’s Bat Mitzvah. Zoe is a beautiful, charming, outgoing, intelligent and effervescent young lady. These qualities she inherits from her dynamic grandmother and her loving and gracious parents.

The ceremony was held at the Community Synagogue. It is a Reform congregation situated on a magnificent estate in the Sands Point area of Port Washington. Rabbi Irwin Zeplowitz is the spiritual leader of the congregation. He spoke enthusiastically about Zoe as he worked with her to study her Jewish religion and prepare for the Bat Mitzvah. He congratulated Zoe on her zeal for learning. He found Zoe to be an enthusiastic, capable and interested scholar. Through her grandmother, Marilynn, and her parents Mace and Debbie, Zoe learned the importance of and respect for the principles of Judaism. Rabbi Zeplowitz used this important life cycle event to mark the time when Zoe was now recognized as an adult in the Jewish Community. He welcomed her to her new role in the Community Synagogue. This congregation cherishes the depth of Jewish learning and the important part that it plays in the lives of its congregants. Rabbi Zeplowitz recognized Zoe’s in depth studies, which were enlightening and vital to her new role as an adult Jewish woman.

Zoe did an excellent job of reciting the blessings and delivering her Torah portion. To Zoe, her Bat Mitzvah ceremony was a highlight in her continuing awareness of Judaism. She was the focus of attention during this ceremonial occasion. Zoe’s recitation of her portion of the Torah showed maturity beyond her years. She was poised, knowledgeable, and articulate. Her inner enthusiasm and joy radiated throughout the temple. One could feel that she had a new sense of belonging.

Marilynn Blicksilver beamed with the joy and pride that she as Zoe’s grandmother felt. Marilynn also did an excellent job in her portion of the readings. It was obvious to all that Zoe had inherited her grandmother’s love of the Torah, her strength of character and facility with language.

Mace Blicksilver spoke for he and his lovely wife. They welcomed Zoe to her new role as an adult. They hoped that Zoe would always have room in her life for her outgoing and wonderful brother, Zachary. Mace’s remarks showed a warm and loving relationship between Zoe and her parents. It was inspiring to see and hear the warm and encouraging words, which Zoe welcomed.

Zoe is an 8th grade student in the Weber Middle School. Zoe loves school. Her school “is a partnership that achieves academic excellence and demonstrates a commitment to social action. Parents, staff and students share the responsibility of creating a respectful and nurturing environment that promote individuality and celebrates diversity,” according to their website.

A wonderful and joyous party followed the Temple ceremony at the Roslyn Clermont Hotel. This is a premier hotel on the north shore of Long Island in Roslyn. It has successfully achieved a perfect balance of the old and the new. It is well known for its attention to detail. The Bat Mitzvah party was held in the exquisite ballroom. The food was elegantly presented. There was music for dancing and lots of activities for the young and the young at heart. Everyone was raving about having a wonderful time.

Zoe has taken an interest in yoga. Yoga harmonizes the mind with the body. Through meditation, yoga helps one to achieve an emotional balance. It creates a self-realization and enlightenment. Zoe will use these techniques to help her to achieve her goals. She is already discussing her college plans with her grandmother. Currently she is considering pursuing her academic studies at New York Univer-sity. Zoe says that she is looking for a high quality, academically challenging college, which will allow her to maintain close ties with her family. These reflections demonstrate Zoe’s maturity and her priority for the important things in life.

Zoe was inducted as a lifetime member of Hadassah two years ago by Marilynn, her grandmother. At that luncheon Zoe gave a great speech. Zoe recognizes the importance of being a Hadassah member. She supports its constant devotion to Judaism, Zionism and American ideals. Hadassah accomplishes its goals through sponsoring strong and valuable programs in healthcare, education, and youth institutions. Hadassah also advances issues of importance to women and to the Jewish community. Zoe welcomed the opportunity to be a lifetime member of Hadassah.

Congratulations to Marilynn Blicksilver, Mace and Debbie Blicksilver and most of all to Zoe Blicksilver. Zoe, may you continue on and prosper in the path that you have begun. Zoe, we wish you continued success in your chosen endeavors.
