Smith Tapped For Male Mentoring
Senator Malcolm A. Smith will be a guest speaker for the Male Mentoring Project meeting that will be held on Wednesday, September 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at MS 198, located at 365 Beach 57 Street in Far Rockaway.
“It has become painfully apparent that the overwhelming issue facing New York City’s mentoring programs is the lack of male mentors for the boys and young men in their programs,” said Senator Smith. “Compounding the issue of an overall shortage of male mentors is the particular lack of African American and Latino men to serve as mentors to their young males, which are predominantly African American and Latino.”
The mission of the Mentoring Partnership of New York (MPNY) is to serve as an advocate for the expansion of quality mentoring programs for New York City youth, and also as a resource for mentors and mentoring initiative citywide. Since 1992, MPNY has provided technical assistance, training, public awareness, advocacy and mentor recruitment support to mentoring programs throughout the New York City area. Membership consists of more than 170 community and faith-based mentoring programs.
