Guards Hang In, Help Man Out

A 38-year-old man was pulled from the waters off Beach 117 Street at 6:30 p.m. on Labor Day, just a half hour after lifeguards officially went off-duty until next season. The unidentified man was fortunate that, as the photo reveals, emergency workers, beachgoers – and dedicated lifeguards – came to his rescue. He was “breathing and awake” as he was transported to Peninsula Hospital Center, according to a FDNY spokesperson.
