Peninsula Preparatory Academy Names Tyler
The Board of Trustees of Peninsula Preparatory Academy Charter School (PPA) has announced the appointment of Judith Tyler as PPA’s new principal.
PPA, the first public charter school in Far Rockaway, will serve 200 students in kindergarten through third grades during the 2005-2006 school year. The school is physically at Middle School 53 on Nameoke Street.
“We are thrilled to welcome Judith Tyler to Peninsula Preparatory Academy,” said Dr. Margaret R. Harrington, Chief Operating Officer of Victory Schools, PPA’s management partner. “She has proven herself to be a skillful educator and leader, and her energy and outlook will serve our students well.”
Tyler has extensive experience in the New York City public school system where she has worked for more than twenty years as both a teacher and an administrator.
She holds a Master’s of Education in Supervision and Administration from the Principal’s Institute at the Bank Street College of Education and a Master’s of Science in Special Education from Adelphi University. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Virginia State University.
The Peninsula Preparatory Academy Charter School (“PPA”) is the first public charter school to be approved in Rockaway, and one of the first new public charter schools to be authorized by the New York City Department of Education.
PPA is a free public school open to all children through a random lottery admissions process.
The school opened in September 2004 to serve students in grades K-2. At full capacity, the school will serve 300 students in grades K-5.
