On The Beach

With Beverly Baxter

If you are a registered Republican, we need your help. We need you to come out on September 13th, (if you need a ride to the Polls, transportation will be provided for you. Call 718-318-1515) and join your Rockaway Republican neighbors in our momentum to effectuate change in the political power structure within the 23rd. A.D..

We ask you to join us in voting out the current ineffective leadership and vote for Eric Ulrich and Rosemary Duffy for Republican District Leaders.

As I am sure you are well aware from articles in The Wave, there has been a mounting grassroots effort that began over a year and a half ago. What began as a small group of local neighbors who banned together in one resident’s garage to complain about the lack of responsiveness and representation of the current Republican leadership, has grown to become a well-organized revolution. This is how it’s done! This is how WE, with our numbers, can have a say in the future of the local Republican Party. Remember, Rockaway holds 94 seats (votes) on the County Committee. That’s 53% of the entire district’s vote; however, ONLY FIVE of these seats (votes) are occupied by Rockaway residents. This isn’t just an outrage, it’s a dereliction of duty by the current leaders who have little interest in Rockaway except to keep a Democrat monopoly. Folks, what we are mounting IS a REVOLUTION. What began as a whisper, a grumble of complaints, became a unified voice that demanded of our leaders that we be heard. The result was the organization of the Rockaway Republicans. We are now several hundred and growing; yet the current leaders continue in their refusal to meet with us nor will they grant us a Charter validating our existence as a legitimate Republican club. Their contemptuous disdain is the height of arrogance. They have taken their jobs for granted; and in doing so, underestimated Rockaway’s verve.

The Rockaway Republicans want credible leadership. We insist upon a fair and equitable political process; not one that is obstructed by the leaders, themselves. Ed, it may not have been within your “job description” as leader to rally around the fate of St. Virgilius; however, it is very much within the scope of your “job description” as a political party leader to do just that: Lead! How can you claim leadership of several hundred Rockaway Republicans, if it took more than a year for you and your counterpart to return our phone calls inviting you to our monthly meetings. The job of a Republican District Leader isn’t just to hand out color T.V. sets to the senior clubs to curry their vote or hire the elderly as paid poll Inspectors to curry their loyalty...and then scare them by threatening that they will lose this much relied upon day’s pay if you aren’t re-elected. Aside from the fact that it’s a lie, it’s cruel! We are not judging you as a person who may do good in your private life. We are stating that you and your counterpart have not risen to the occasion of your responsibility as Republican Leaders.

These are the FACTS:

FACT: It took more than a year for you to return our phone calls inviting you to our well-attended monthly meetings. It IS your responsibility to do so!

FACT: Rather than encourage our growing club, you vowed to “crush” us.

FACT: You continue in your refusal to grant The Rockaway Republicans a Charter.

FACT: Under your leadership, or rather, lack thereof, you refuse to promote Republican candidates. It IS your responsibility to do so! When was the last time we saw a Republican name contesting any Democrat on the ballot?

FACT: You have been obstructionist in your duty to promote a Republican choice, thereby continuing the Democrat monopoly.

FACT: The current Republican Leaders have been “working with” Democrats behind the scenes. Just ask Lew Simon! He will happily corroborate this FACT for you.

FACT: You have failed to promote party-building or a Republican identity when this IS your responsibility to do so!

FACT: Where are you? With the exception of recent paid political advertisements in The Wave, how can any Republican constituent find you to voice a complaint or need of assistance when you offer neither a published address of a meeting place, an email address, or phone number. It IS your responsibility to do so!

FACT: When you were invited to write a bi-monthly column in The Wave expressing the Republican point of view, you refused. Couldn’t be bothered. Haven’t got time for the pain. It IS your responsibility to do so!

FACT: How can you insult Rockaway Republicans and ask for our vote when 89 of 94 ROCKAWAY seats on the County Committee are currently occupied by those, placed by you, who reside OUTSIDE of Rockaway. It IS a dereliction of your duty, coupled with your refusal to run Republican candidates against the democrats—when IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DO SO!

Rockaway Republicans know what their responsibility is in this most important historic election. Our vote will decide the fate of the Republican party on the local level. We know that the fact that we even have a Republican Primary is quite a heralded accomplishment on the part of the Rockaway Republican Club. Through our vote, we can break the monopoly. Since our current leaders have continued to fail us, we looked elsewhere for leadership. We found it in Duffy and Ulrich. Please join us on Tuesday September 13 and cast your vote for Rosemary Duffy and Eric Ulrich for Republican District Leaders. You will also find many familiar Rockaway Republican names on the ballot for County Committee. You will find a listing of their names in our ad in this week’s Wave edition. Vote for them. It’s about change. It’s about time. We may never pass this way again. Call 318-1515 for transportation.
