Labor Day Mardi Gras Set For Broad Channel
The 2005 Mardi Gras festivities, hosted by the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department, will kick off today, Friday, September 2 and will continue through the Labor Day weekend.
The Weekend’s events will begin with a countdown at the firehouse on Noel Road, with music, rides, food and fun.
Mardi Gras continues Saturday’s running races and a “HeMan/SheMan” contest starting at noon at the BCAC Memorial Field. Then, at 9 p.m., the contestants from those contests will be crowned at the “winning” bar, the bar that collects the largest amount of money for the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department, the sponsor of the weekend’s events.
Sunday, September 4 is “Make Your Float Day,” as well as a celebration held at both Duffy’s Pub and Grassy Point (where both bars worked hard this summer to raise money). At 9 p.m. people are invited to meet at the second place bar, where the party will continue to the winning bar.
Finally, on September 5, the Labor Day parade starts at 1 p.m. Registration for the floats and participants start at 11:30 a.m. (location to be announced). All walkers and floats are welcome to come and join the fun.
