Erin On The Rox

By Erin Baumann

The Bozo Softball Club Annual Steak party was held this year on August 12th. A big crowd (including many Kingsmen and LAMC’s) that filled the expansive new deck (great job, Wolfie!) was treated to two hotly- contested playoff games with the Bockers’ Tree Surgeons winning both and moving past the Round Robin. A big thanks to all the chefs and servers: EV Barile, who helped out with broccoli, Karen Bogart, who helped with potatoes, as well as Jim (Chuckles) Barile, Timmy (Merc) McKinley, John (Nut) Barile, Ricky (Fritz) Gresser, Pat (Big Unit) Kammerer, Roddie (Hot Rod) Rodman, Bill (Coach) Reid, Paul (PJ) Rodman, and Jim (Morty) Morton. Richie Duemig supervised a crew of hardworking bartenders, with the Reid sisters (featuring Ve Ron) finishing up the night. Special Thanks to the setup and clean up committees: Bob (the Chief) McEnroe, Brian (Mr. B) Bogart, Ed (Superman) Madsen, Eugene (Mackie) McEnroe, (Big) Bob Willis and Jim (Poobah) Naus. Hope to see you all there next year.

On August 14, the Annual Sand Sculpture competition this year had 54 Sculptures and 199 registered participants. The Grand Prizes went to Roxapulco, March of the Penguins, Starfish Wars, Jaws, Elvis in Trouble, Rainbowfish, Baywitch, Lighthouse, Split Personality, Komodo Dragon, 1200 BC Castle, The Murrozener Dragon, The Sandman, Guiding Lighthouse, St. Genevieve’s, Fort Roxbury, and Garden by the Sea. A Big Thank You to the Roxbury People Association and the Breezy Point Cooperative for sponsoring the event. A special birthday was celebrated at the Awards Ceremony when everyone sang Happy Birthday to Doris Christianson who turned 87 years young. Her neighbors even built a “Happy Birthday Doris” cake for her out of sand.

Congratulations to the Dawgs who are the 2005 Roxbury Men’s Softball Champions after winning the second game on August 21, defeating the Bockers.

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Hendry who are celebrating their anniversary of sixty years of marriage together.

The Mayor Race of 2005 ended this past Saturday with the win by Vote #1 Matt Monahan. Congratulations and best of luck to Matt on his win.
