Sanders’ Committee Attendance In Question
Council candidate David R. Hooks, Jr. is challenging Councilman James Sanders’ deficient attendance record in the New York City Council.
According to Hooks, since Sanders’ election in 2001, he has missed more than 150 Council committee meetings. Documents obtained from the City Council show that Sanders attended only 66 percent of his committee hearings in 2002, 49 percent in 2003 and 55 percent of his committee hearings in 2004, where he was absent 57 out of 126 committee hearings.
John Lance, a spokesperson for the Hooks campaign, said, “The Councilman lost the support of civic leaders, Democratic district leaders and the Queens Democratic Organization because people from the community complained that he was inaccessible.
Now we see that he was absent from the Council, too.”
