His strong commitment to the community is demonstrated by his active involvement in numerous community and civic organizations.

From Strands Unisex Salon we have the wonderful partners Salvatore Araimo, Gerri Stansky and Diane Liello. Strands recently celebrated their first anniversary. The owners, Diane Liello, Gerry Stansky and Sal Araimo are no strangers to the business or the community. They along with their exceptional staff look forward to their expansion and to keeping Rockaway beautiful!

In contrast to Strand’s one-year anniversary, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is celebrating their 100th Anniversary. St. John’s is the cornerstone of Episcopal Health Services, a not-for-profit healthcare organization of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island.

The history of St. John’s is testimony to the dedication of religious institutions to serving the sick, and striving to provide medical care to a unique shore community. The Hospital offers comprehensive outpatient, community-based, and in-patient mental health services in the Rockaways. The renovated Emergency Department is a designated 911-receiving hospital and a Level-II trauma center.

Dr. Kathleen Cashin’s career as an educator began more than thirty years ago. She was a teacher, staff developer, reading consultant and program manager for New York City schools. Presently as Regional Superintendent of Region 5, Dr. Cashin continues to create an environment that offers growth opportunities for students and their families. She has dedicated herself to educating children and ensuring that every child receives an equal opportunity to develop into a contributing member of society.

Daisy Johnson of Miss D’s Playgroup is one of the most dynamic people in the Rockaways. Her day care center is alive with children, and she’s been working tirelessly to open the new facility on Central Avenue, which is turning into a beautiful establishment. Daisy is actively involved in the Rockaway East Merchants Association, which works to make the business district of Far Rockaway a better place for merchants and patrons.

Oralene Davis is the Financial Center Manager of Citibank and has been a Rockaway resident for over twenty years living in Bayswater with her husband and children. She holds a bachelors degree from the CUNY in Marketing and is currently pursuing her MBA.

Oralene is passionate about the community in which she lives and works (and plays) and is always looking for opportunities to enhance the lives of her employees as well as her clients. As the Manager of Citibank in Rockaway, she works with several not for profit organizations within the community including Ocean Bay and RDRC. Please call the Chamber office for reservations and further information.

The NYPD is looking for individuals from the Rockaway Community to participate in the Citizen’s Police Academy. The academy starts on September 7 and runs for 14 weeks.
