Kenny Rogers career began as a member of The New Christy Minstrels in the sixties and then as the lead singer for the First Edition which charted a number of pop hits such as “Something’s Burning” and “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town” from 1968 to 1972. As a solo artist, Kenny’s greatest success came in the late seventies and early eighties with hits like “Lucille,” “She Believes in Me,” “You Decorated My Life,” “Coward of the County,” “Lady,” and of course, “The Gambler”. Altogether he has charted more than 40 hit singles which are compiled in his latest collection, 42 Ultimate Hits.
As one of country music’s biggest crossover successes, Kenny’s numerous accolades include 4 Grammy Awards, 11 People’s Choice Awards, 18 American Music Awards, 8 Academy of Country Music Awards and 5 Country Music Association Awards. In addition, he was named “Favorite Singer of All Time” in a PM Magazine/USA Today poll in 1986, and in 1989 People Magazine voted Rogers “Favorite Male Vocalist.” In 1990 Rogers was honored with the Horatio Alger Award, given to those who have distinguished themselves despite humble beginnings. It is his most personal and cherished award.
Among his most recent accomplishments are the number one singles “The Greatest” and “Buy me a Rose.” His most recent studio album, Back to the Well , was Rogers’ 61 st career album. It includes a duet “Love Like This” with country darling Alison Krauss, “727 East Magnolia Avenue,” and the title track “Back to the Well.” He recently wrote a touching and inspirational family Christmas classic entitled “Christmas in Canaan. In addition to all of his musical accomplishments, you can see Rogers acting in “THE GAMBLER”, a mini-series inspired from his song and a guest starring on an episode of “Touched By An Angel.”
