Sanders Hosts 700 At Community Wedding

On Saturday, July 9, at 4 p.m. at the

Russell Sage First Presbyterian Church of Far Rockaway, located at 896 Central Avenue at Beach 9 Street, the former Ms. Andrea Monique Stevenson-Duncan and New York City Council Member James Sanders, Jr. were married in a beautiful and touching ceremony that included musical selections by the Professor Lonnie Felder and his choir Voices of Inspiration, soloist Keisha Williams as well as  praise dancers before 700 family and friends.  The daughter of the bride Ms. Nache Q. Duncan was the Maid of Honor, Ann-Marie Bourne-Illery was the Matron of Honor and the Bishop Timothy Clarke was the Best Man.

The bride wore her design of a beautiful Victorian gown with imported lace and trimmed with crystal, pearls and sequins which included an impressive 23-foot silk organza train. Her 10 bridesmaids wore the most exquisite black gowns with crystal embellished trains.  The five junior bridesmaids wore elegant ball gowns in a melody of black and white.  As a commitment to unify both families Council Member Sander’s son, Malik Sanders, and Andrea Duncan’s son, Devin Duncan lit unity candles.  The officiating Minister was Pastor Arthur W. Davenport. Bishop Timothy Clarke, the groom’s best friend, over saw the Jumping of the Broom, and Pastor Les Mullings gave the

Benediction.

The Newlyweds hosted two wedding receptions. The first reception was held under a tent at the Russell Sage First Presbyterian Church, where the community enjoyed a simply delicious catered menu.   The second reception, an intimate black tie affair in the Penthouse of Terrace on the Park in Flushing which overlooks the twinkling of the New York City Skyline, filled with a sea of elegant red “velvet black magic” roses amongst the backdrop of candle light. It was attended by numerous high profile members of the

Congress, the City Council, the New York State Assembly and Senate.

The evening commenced with a moving speech by N’zinga Sanders (daughter of the groom) and Ms. Nache Q. Duncan (daughter of the bride). It was followed by a beautiful poem written by City Council member James Sanders entitled “I Promise,” which enumerated a list of moving commitments and a reconfirmation of his love to the new Mrs. Andrea Sanders.  Council Member Sanders stated, “I promise that I will treat you with ever greater love and respect than I did yesterday.”
