Rockaway Little League Season Over

Lawrence Pump Completes Winning Season.Lawrence Pump Completes Winning Season. The Rockaway Little League Major Girls softball team of Lawrence Pump and Well Corp. came out swinging in their playoff game on June 26 against Flynn and Flynn, taking a 17-2 victory in three and a half innings of play.  Annette Scotto and Judith Wanderer accounted for three runs and two RBI each. The balanced members of Lawrence played terrific offense, keeping the pressure on Flynn. Defensively, Lawrence’s infield and outfield played in union with one another; the infield holding Flynn to their total of two runs scored.

The final game of the season was played three days later, pitting Lawrence Pump against Door Max. The girls of Lawrence were somewhat nervous at the onset of the game, allowing Door Max to capitalize on some fielding errors, securing and holding the lead for the first three innings.

The bats of Judith Wanderer, Eric Tacopina, Annette Scotto, Taylor Conroy, and Kristen Lonnborg kept Lawrence in the running during the first three innings, down 5-3. The fourth inning proved to be the climactic turn around, following multiple coach-to-player pep talks. Annette Scotto lead off with a solo home run, charging up the team to full energy. Mary Ameruso, Kyra Meli, Pauline O’Shea, Becky Resner, Lauren Houck, Frances Amodeo, Britney Lonnborg, “Cat” Murphy, and Judith Wanderer all chipped away to get three more in the fourth, bringing Lawrence to a 7-5 lead. Lawrence kept the heat up during their fifth time at bat with contributions from Erin Tacopina, Annette Scotto, Taylor Conroy, Becky Resner and Pauline O’Shea. The combined strong offense and defense of the entire field demonstrated the true strength of team spirit and heart to come from behind and claim a 10-5 Lawrence victory. No game is a “walk in the park”, and Lawrence saluted Coach Palmer Doyle and his Door Max sluggers.
