Asleep At Wheel, Errant Driver Hits Truck

A Rockaway man feel asleep at the wheel of his 1995 Honda on Tuesday afternoon, causing an accident with a large truck that left him in St. John’s Episcopal Hospital. According to police sources, George Morris, 34, of Beach 15 Street in Far Rockaway, was driving west on Seagirt Boulevard when he fell asleep. Morris told police that he woke up just in time to see a large Peterbuilt truck coming the other way making a left turn onto Beach 9 Street right in front of him. Seeing that he could not stop in time, he told police that he turned his wheels into the accident and got caught under the wheels of the 16-wheel truck, owned and operated by Anthony McLeish, 54, of White Plains. Morris had to be extricated from the car by firefighters and transported to the hospital, where, officials say, he was treated and released.
