Breezy Point Par Tee Golf News

By Doris Neimeth

On June 23, the Par Tee Golfers, numbering 39, enjoyed the pleasant weather at Riis Park.  Nancy Garito, especially, had a great day with two chip-in birds, one on hole #7 and a 20 yard chip-in on #10.  Nancy also won the 50/50 at our first Par Tee Luncheon at the Catholic Club.

Nancy, I plan to touch your hand next golf game, maybe you will bring me good luck!! Starting June 30th Eileen Watson informed the ladies at the luncheon that there will be a close to the pin contest on holes # 1 & 18, prize yet to be announced.

A measuring tape and sign-up sheet will be on hand at each hole.  Please put the tape and sign-up sheet off the green after filling in.  Please, each team must turn in TWO score cards.  Speed up play (no holes empty ahead of you). Remember after SIX strokes pick up. Tee Times will be given out at the luncheon for next weeks play.

Our schedule for Riis Park is at 7:30 a.m., if you are not scheduled for a tee time the week before please come but plan to tee off at 8:15 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. Another option would be to come early and hope for a no-show in the foursome already scheduled the week before.

Mark your calendars now for the Guys and Dolls Tournament to be held July 14th, cost is $20.00 per person, golf, luncheon and prizes to be held at Riis Park/ Catholic Club. Checks are made out to Par Tee Golf and get your reservations in as soon as possible.

The Par Tee Golfers send their condolences to the families of Frank Tropea and Inez Moriarty. Inez was a faithful member of the group and Frank our bartender at the Catholic Club each Thursday for our luncheons along with his wife Gloria were a delight.

We will miss his good humor and happy smile. We thank now Dick Mahon for his continued support and newcomer Donald Sharrock, Dick’s righthand man. Scores for the week are as follows: Nancy Heffernan-63 with a birdie on #12, Doris Neimeth-63, Terry Gearity with a chip-in on #14-65, Evelyn Gannon-66, Pam Armour, Meg Ferrick and  Peg Ansbro-69 with Peg having a birdie on # 7.

Scores in the 70’s: Susan Ryan-70  with a chip-in birdie on #7 and a birdie on #12, Eileen Watson-71, Janis Murphy-72, Mary Ellen Hogan and Joan McNally-73, Joan Fallon-74 and Eileen Witzgall-74 with birdies on #13 & #14, Bea Sharrock-75 with a chip-in on #18, Mildred Seligman-76, Betty Weed, Pat Livingston, Evie McVeigh and Barbara Caramelli-77, Kay Miller-78, Mary O’Rourke and Mary Basch-79 with Mary having a Birdie on # 13, Betty Monahan a chip-in on # 3, Mildred Duffy a chip-in on #18 and a birdie on #2.  May God Bless each and everyone especially the families of Frank Tropea and Inez Moriarty.
