Gas Main Blows, Imperiling PS 114

Workers from KeySpan Energy join firefighters nearby the gas leak.

The Benson Evacuation company of Brooklyn was working on a new installation on the 200 block of Beach 134 Street last Friday afternoon at about 2 p.m., when the workmen compromised a gas pipe that sprung a hole, spewing gas into the air. Emergency responders were especially worried because PS 114, an elementary school is on the next block and, in fact, the smell permeated the school.
