Angel Manuel Caban Raised In Far Rockaway

  • Angel Manuel Caban, a former Far Rockaway resident, died May 29. He was 64.
  • Caban, who was also known as “Chuck,” was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on May 12, 1941. He was raised in Far Rockaway and lived in New York for more than 50 years.

    Caban served in the United States Air Force in the 1950s and was later a clinical social worker at the Brooklyn VA Medical Center.

    He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel and siblings, Juanita, Al and Danny.

    Caban is survived by his daughters, Valerie, Melissa and Jaclyn; mother, Veneranda; siblings, Maria, Abby, Jimmy, Milton, Noemi, Sammy, Joey, Debbie, Lizzy and Michael; and other family members.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Meserole Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at the Prince of Peace Church in Far Rockaway. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.

    Michael Cullinane

    Stockbroker

    Michael Cullinane, a former Belle Harbor resident of 20 years, died June 17.

    Cullinane, who was born in Manhattan, served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the New York Stock Exchange for 30 years and was a stockbroker with Stiffel, Nicolaus & Co.

    Cullinane is survived by his wife, Jeanne Kirby Cullinane; son, John C. Cullinane; daughters, Nancy Hardzewicz, Kelly Gebhardt and Kaitlyn J. Cullinane; sister, Barbara Regan; grandchildren, Matthew, Alex, Justin and Jack; and nephews, Bobby, Michael, Eddie, Ryan, Jeffrey and Kyle.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Camillus. Disposition was private.

    Michael J. McGuinness

    Foreign Exchange Broker

    Michael J. McGuinness, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died June 21.

    McGuinness, who was born in Rockaway Beach, was a foreign exchange broker with Capdelaine Corporate Securities.

    McGuinness is survived by his wife, Ellen Brunner McGuinness; sons, Michael F. and Christopher M.; daughter, Elizabeth A.; and sisters, Patricia Mullins and Kathleen Setters.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, June 24, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales on Saturday, June 25, at 9:45 a.m.

    Interment will be at St. Charles Cemetery.

    John McLoughlin

    Lifelong Rockaway Resident

    John McLoughlin, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died June 10. He was 52.

    McLoughlin was born in the old Rockaway Beach Hospital in September 1952. He lived in Far Rockaway during most of his youth, moving to Rockaway Beach and then Rockaway Park in the early 1970s.

    McLoughlin is still remembered by many Rockaway residents as the announcer at Pinky’s Fascination on Beach 98 Street.

    McLoughlin was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and John McLoughlin; sister, Patricia; and father-in-law, David Weiss.

    McLoughlin is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sheri McLoughlin; son, John (Suzanne); daughter, Melissa (Kevin); sisters, Lois, Shirley (Don), and Betty Ann (Vincent); brother, Lawrence; mother-in-law, Florence Weiss; sister-in-law, Tammy Scott (Edward); brother-in-law, Richard Solomonic (Maria); and many nephews, nieces, family members, and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the I.J. Morris Funeral Home. A service was held at West End Temple in Neponsit. Interment was at United Hebrew Cemetery in Staten Island.

    Mary A. Spearman

    Homemaker

    Mary A. Spearman, a Rockaway resident for 40 years, died June 18.

    Spearman, who was born in Manhattan, lived in the Bronx before relocating to Rockaway.

    She is survived by her husband, James Spearman; daughters, Debra, Andosca and Laura Spearman; brothers, James and Thomas Caulfield; sister, Margaret O’Neill; grandchildren, Gina, Vincent, Jaclyn and Jessica Andosca and Eric Vanella.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales on Friday, June 24, at 9:45 a.m. Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery.

    Bill Walsh

    Salesman

    Bill Walsh, a Rockaway resident for 50 years, died June 22. He was 83.

    Walsh, who was born in New York, served in the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a salesman and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Walsh was a parishioner at St. Camillus.

    Walsh is survived by his daughter, Marianne and son, Thomas.

    He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary; sister, Mary; sons, Bobby and Jimmy; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

    A Mass will be celebrated at St. Camillus on Sat., July 9, at 10:30 a.m.
