Raging Fire Destroys Beach 26 Street Bungalow
According to a spokesperson for the Fire Department, the first call for the electrical fire at 177A Beach 26 Street, just off the ocean in Wavecrest, came in at 5:15 p.m.
The one-story brick bungalow, measuring only 20 feet by 30 feet proved to be difficult to fight and an all-hands call went out at 5:27 p.m. Fire officials were reportedly concerned that the fire would spread to a new housing complex on the next street.
That call brought 12 fire units from all over the peninsula with 60 firefighters to the scene of the fire. Fire sources told The Wave that the fire was declared under control at 5:36 p.m. Two unidentified firefighters suffered “minor injuries in their back and neck,” according to the fire department spokesperson. The fire was not of suspicious origin and was caused by faulty electrical wiring, according to the source.
