Young Cartoonists Create Heroes For Museum

As part of the Rockaway Museum’s sponsored Cartooning Workshops at the Seaside Library, three young women developed characters that visually and verbally voiced their observations.

Under the direction of Wave editorial cartoonist Bob Sarnoff, the young women drew sketches and mastered the skills and techniques associated with cartooning. In each of the one cell cartoons, the students concentrated on simple, concise, effective image and statement to capture their thoughts. Composition, contrast, crosshatching and stippling were discussed and then incorporated into the drawings.

Cartoons by Ten year-old Valerie Gilliam’s “Sophe”. Eleven year-old Brendan Wierzbowski’s “Ellie”, and Ten year-old Robin Durant’s “Crystal”.
